Story Privacy Settings

Every story you share can be marked as either public or private. This gives you full control over who can see your memories and how widely they are shared. You can choose the privacy setting when creating a story and change it at any time.

Public vs. Private Stories

  • Public Stories — Visible to everyone, including visitors who are not logged in.
  • Private Stories — Only visible to logged‑in family members.

Both types of stories appear in the Stories & Memories section, but private stories are hidden from non‑family visitors.

Choosing a Privacy Setting When Sharing a Story

When you create a new story, you’ll see a checkbox labeled Make Public:

  • If the box is checked, your story will be public.
  • If the box is unchecked, your story will be private.

You can change this setting later if you change your mind.

Changing Privacy Settings on an Existing Story

  1. Open the story you want to update.
  2. Click the Edit button.
  3. Scroll to the Make Public checkbox.
  4. Check or uncheck the box to update the visibility.
  5. Click Save Story to apply your changes.

How Privacy Affects Story Visibility

  • Public stories appear for everyone, including visitors who have not logged in.
  • Private stories only appear for logged‑in family members.
  • Private stories are labeled with a Private badge so you can easily identify them.
  • Changing a story from public to private immediately hides it from visitors.

Why Privacy Matters

Some stories are meant for the whole world to see, while others are more personal. Privacy settings let you decide how widely your memories are shared. You can update your settings at any time as your comfort level changes.
