Recurring Events

Recurring events automatically appear on the calendar every year, month, week, or on a custom schedule. This makes it easy to track birthdays, anniversaries, holidays, and repeating family traditions without re‑entering them each year.

What Is a Recurring Event?

A recurring event is an event that repeats on a regular schedule. Instead of creating the same event every year or month, you can set a recurrence rule and the calendar will generate future occurrences automatically.

Types of Recurrence

The calendar supports several recurrence patterns:

1. Yearly

  • Repeats once every year on the same date
  • Common for birthdays and anniversaries
  • Example: July 14 — John’s Birthday

2. Monthly

  • Repeats on the same day each month
  • Example: 15th of every month — Bill Pay Reminder

3. Weekly

  • Repeats every week on the selected weekday
  • Example: Every Tuesday — Family Zoom Call

4. Custom (Nth Weekday)

Custom recurrence allows you to create patterns like:

  • 2nd Saturday in August
  • 1st Monday in June
  • Last Friday in September

This is ideal for events such as reunions, annual meetings, or holidays that don’t fall on a fixed date.

Custom recurrence uses the format: CUSTOM:N:DAY:MONTH Example: CUSTOM:2:SAT:8 = 2nd Saturday in August

Adding a Recurring Event

  1. Open the Add Event window.
  2. Enter the event title, date, and description.
  3. Select a recurrence option from the Recurrence dropdown.
  4. If choosing Custom, fill in the Nth weekday pattern.
  5. Click Save Event.

Editing a Recurring Event

To update a recurring event:

  1. Click the event on the calendar.
  2. Select Edit.
  3. Update the recurrence rule or other details.
  4. Click Save Changes.

Changes apply to all future occurrences.

How Recurring Events Appear on the Calendar

  • Recurring events are generated dynamically for the selected year.
  • Yearly events appear every year on the same date.
  • Custom events appear on the correct Nth weekday each year.
  • Events are color‑coded by category (if enabled).

Removing Recurrence

To remove recurrence from an event:

  1. Edit the event.
  2. Change the recurrence dropdown to None.
  3. Save your changes.

Tips for Using Recurring Events

  • Use yearly recurrence for birthdays and anniversaries.
  • Use custom recurrence for events tied to a specific weekday.
  • Double‑check custom patterns to ensure they match your intended schedule.
  • Recurring events update automatically when the year changes.
